In 1995, BICE and its local partners started working with handicapped children in Russia. We subsequently extended our actions to children who are victims of mistreatment and sexual abuse, and children in situations of family and social breakdown. We work in various regions around Moscow, Zlatooust, Toula, Krasnoïarsk, Orenbourg and Saint Petersburg.
The main goals of our projects and programmes in Russia are:
Handicap
- The strengthening of skills and training of professionals;
- Capacity building for young people who are faced with abuse and violence, through the « Grain of Sand » and « Life Skills-Based Education» campaigns;
- The dissemination of good educational psychology practices, to promote development and communication in handicapped children
Child victims of mistreatment, or family and social breakdown
- An improved system for reporting cases of school or family violence;
- The creation of a medico-legal centre in Moscow (the first in Russia), to hear the testimony of child victims;
- Training of police officers in taking down testimony from children;
- Information and support for parents;
- Parental support groups for parents with educational difficulties;
- Parental support in situations of seasonal migration;
- Legal aid for families;
- Appeals to local and national authorities
